The electric field of the oil fume purifier must not be cleaned using a commercial dishwasher.

To save time and effort, many foodservice operators place the electric field components of their grease purification units directly into commercial dishwashers for cleaning. While this practice may appear efficient, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits; it is an improper maintenance method that is not recommended and poses multiple risks.

First, the equipment is susceptible to damage. The electric field assembly consists of closely spaced plates, high-voltage electrodes, and ceramic insulators—components that are structurally precise yet delicate. The powerful high-pressure water jets in commercial dishwashers can easily deform the plates or misalign the electrodes, directly leading to abnormal high-voltage discharge and a failure in purification performance. Furthermore, the high-temperature washing cycles and specialized detergents used in dishwashers can corrode the metal coatings and insulating parts of the electric field, accelerating equipment aging and premature failure.

Furthermore, the cleaning performance is extremely poor. The deposits on the electrostatic precipitator plates consist of stubborn, heavy oil and tar that have carbonized at high temperatures; a dishwasher's standard water pressure and temperature cannot fully dissolve or remove them. It only cleans away surface grease, allowing residue to accumulate and clog the gaps between the plates, which drastically reduces purification efficiency and creates a high risk of violating environmental emission standards.

The correct procedure is to disassemble the unit, soak the parts in warm water with a specialized neutral degreaser, gently scrub with a soft brush, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and allow them to dry completely before reassembly; this ensures both effective cleaning and the longevity of the equipment.
