How to clean viscous grease from the composite media filter of a kitchen air purifier

After prolonged use, kitchen-specific smoke and odor purifiers accumulate a large amount of sticky grease and grime inside their composite media filters. This type of grease has extremely strong adhesion and easily gets stuck in the multi-layered fiber pores of the filter, making it difficult to clean with simple wiping. Long-term accumulation can cause filter blockage, reduced airflow, a significant decrease in smoke and odor removal efficiency, and even the growth of unpleasant odors and mold, affecting the indoor air quality. Mastering the correct deep cleaning method can thoroughly remove stubborn grease and effectively extend the filter's lifespan..

Before cleaning, first turn off the air purifier and remove the composite filter. Gently brush away surface oil and dust with a soft brush to prevent large impurities from penetrating deep into the filter during soaking. Kitchen grease is a solidified oily grime that is difficult to remove with ordinary water; it is recommended to use warm water with a degreasing cleaner. Prepare warm water at around 40 degrees Celsius, add a neutral degreaser or a small amount of baking soda. This is gentle and will not damage the composite filter structure, and can quickly emulsify viscous grease.

Lay the filter screen completely flat and immerse it in clean water for about 30 minutes to allow the cleaning solution to fully penetrate the filter screen layers and soften the stubborn grease stuck in the pores.  After the grease has softened, gently brush it with a soft-bristled brush along the texture of the filter screen, paying special attention to cleaning the corners and areas with densely packed pores. Never use steel wool or high-pressure water to vigorously rinse the filter, as this can easily cause the composite filter media to delaminate, deform, or break, rendering the filter unusable.

After scrubbing thoroughly, rinse the filter repeatedly with running water to ensure no detergent or grease residue remains. After cleaning, place it in a cool, well-ventilated area to air dry completely before reinstalling it in the machine. This prevents moisture from causing mold, souring, and secondary odors.

It is recommended to perform a deep cleaning every one to two months to effectively prevent grease from solidifying and accumulating, maintain the air purification effect of the kitchen air purifier, and ensure long-term stable operation of the equipment.
