In commercial kitchen exhaust systems, Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) units handle high-temperature fumes over extended periods; the accumulation of grease on internal collector plates creates a risk of fire ignition caused by arcing. Establishing a reliable linkage between the gas-based fire suppression system and the ESP unit is therefore crucial for ensuring kitchen fire safety.

The core logic of this linkage adheres to fire safety standards: the gas suppression controller interfaces with the ESP control circuit via a passive dry contact signal to force an emergency power-off and shutdown of the unit in the event of a fire. Upon confirmation of a fire—triggered by dual-signal alarms from smoke and heat detectors within the protected zone—the suppression system enters its discharge delay phase while simultaneously outputting a linkage signal to immediately cut off the ESP’s high-voltage power supply and the associated circulation fan, thereby halting equipment operation.

The ESP must be shut down immediately. This serves two purposes: preventing the fan from continuously supplying air that would fuel the fire and accelerate its spread, and stopping the ESP's high-voltage electric field from generating arcs that could cause re-ignition. Additionally, it prevents the extinguishing agent from being diluted by the airflow, thereby ensuring the effectiveness of the gas-based fire suppression system. This coordinated action also allows for the simultaneous cutting off of the gas solenoid valve and the closing of the motorized fire damper in the protected zone; signals confirming these actions are transmitted to the fire control room to enable status monitoring.

 At the implementation stage, the ESP unit must be equipped with a dedicated passive interface for fire safety linkage; reliance on software-based shutdown alone is insufficient, as the system must ensure a forced power cut via the hardware circuit. Wiring requires fire-resistant protection and must be routed away from areas exposed to high temperatures or oily fumes. During commissioning, simulated linkage tests must be conducted to verify the complete operational sequence: alarm triggering, ESP power cutoff, fan shutdown, and fire suppression activation.

Routine operation and maintenance are critical; regular cleaning of oil deposits from ESP collector plates reduces the risk of internal fires, while monthly verification of linkage signal pathways prevents interface failure due to aging. This integrated linkage solution balances fume purification with fire safety, enabling internal-recirculation ESP units to meet both environmental emission standards and fire safety acceptance criteria—making them ideal for various flue-less dining environments, such as mall island kiosks and enclosed open-concept kitchens.
